REGULAR MEETING: 7 PM
In attendance: All Council; several visitors; H/J reporter Jessica Devault; Andrew with Cable.
Mayor Pro tem Johnson called the meeting to order, welcomed the group, and gave the invocation.
Councilman Mahaffey made the motion to approve the minutes; Councilwoman Brannon second. Unanimous.
Zoning Administrator Sara Roe gave the Planning Commission's report; stated that the egg hunt scheduled for last Saturday was cancelled due to the weather. She asked all candidates who put up campaign signs to please have them removed within ten days from the election.
The Administrator gave her report; asked for approval for a new Streetscape going from the traffic light out Highway 11. Council asked for more information.
Council asked the Administrator to get bids on permanent placement of a 30 yard dumpster behind City Hall.
Councilwoman Brannon made the motion to give first reading to annexation of the Senior Center; Councilwoman Dawkins second. Unanimous.
Victims Advocate Ben Dodd gave his report; stated that crime is down in the City. He gave statistics on cases.
Clint Button spoke concerning the Antique Bike Rally to be held on July 27 on Chester Street. He told the group that a large amount of bikers would be present, and the group hoped to raise money for the Boy Scouts and the Artisan Center. He asked Council for a total of $7356.50 to get advertising out. He also told the group about the hope to print the "First Fifty Years of Chesnee" and sell the copies for a nominal fee to help generate interest for the Centennial coming in 2011. Council will consider his proposal.
Chief of Police Smith gave his report and asked Council to approve a Ride Along Policy. Councilwoman Brannon made the motion to approve his request; Councilman Mahaffey second. Unanimous.
Chief Smith told the group about Lauren W. Sandberg graduating from the Academy.
Chief Smith asked Council to go into executive session to discuss hiring two officers.
Councilwoman Brannon made the motion to go in; Councilman Mahaffey second. Unanimous.
Councilwoman Brannon made the motion to come out of executive session; Councilwoman Dawkins second. Unanimous.
Mayor Pro tem Johnson stated that no action was taken in executive session.
Councilwoman Brannon made the motion to approve the proposal by Chief Smith to hire two additional officers at a cost of $1.00 per year; Councilman Mahaffey second. Unanimous.
Councilman Mahaffey made the motion to adjourn; Councilwoman Brannon second. Unanimous.
